SHANGHAI, China: The 2025 edition of the FDI World Dental Congress (FDIWDC25), one of the world’s premier events for the oral health profession, will be held in Shanghai in China, from 9 to 12 September. Co-hosted by the Chinese Stomatological Association and Reed Sinopharm Exhibitions, the event continues FDI’s tradition of rotating annual congresses across different host countries to highlight the global importance of oral health in promoting overall health and well-being.
FDIWDC serves as a key platform for international collaboration in dentistry. For the 2025 edition, more than 10,000 delegates have already registered, and the organisers expect over 30,000 professional attendees and visitors from over 100 countries and regions. China’s recent visa-free policies and Shanghai’s global connectivity are expected to further boost participation. Coupled with FDIWDC’s long-standing reputation as the leading international dental event, the congress is set to offer a truly global experience.
Prof. Tianmin Xu, the Chinese Stomatological Association’s scientific programme director for FDIWDC25, stated in an interview with Dental Tribune International: “I anticipate that FDIWDC25 will be a landmark event, truly reflecting the scale and dynamism of global dentistry today. China has a large population and a rapidly advancing oral health industry, and this may be the largest gathering of dental professionals ever held under the FDI banner.”
Attendees can anticipate a comprehensive scientific programme featuring insights from over 100 leading international speakers and interactive sessions on key dental topics. Prof. Katalin Nagy, vice-chair of the FDI Education Committee, said: “We’ve dedicated ourselves to ensuring that the content is both high quality and forward-thinking, reflecting the latest in dental education. We truly believe this will be one of our most engaging and impactful conferences yet.”
FDIWDC25 will also host the largest exhibition in FDI’s history, occupying 60,000 m2 of exhibition halls. The exhibition will showcase the latest developments in dental equipment and technology from top international brands and Chinese manufacturers. It will highlight innovations in artificial intelligence-powered diagnostics, digital dentistry and 3D printing, as well as research breakthroughs at leading hospitals and universities.
The congress will also offer extensive networking opportunities, including guided tours tailored to connecting researchers, clinicians, industry experts and distributors, with the aim of fostering partnerships that advance global oral health. A vibrant social programme will provide attendees with an immersive cultural experience in Shanghai.
China’s rise as a dental destination
Alongside the congress, China’s emergence as a leader in global dentistry will be in focus. Since 2006, the country’s dental industry has recorded some of the fastest growth globally, in both market size and technology adoption. Clinics across China are rapidly implementing fully digital workflows, improving treatment precision, clinical efficiency and patient comfort—and thereby setting new benchmarks in care.
Driving global oral health forwards
FDIWDC25 aims to advance global oral health through innovation, collaboration and knowledge exchange. By bringing together the world’s leading dental professionals, researchers and industry representatives, this year’s congress will address major health challenges, showcase transformative solutions and foster international cooperation in improving oral care.
