As the global dental community prepares to gather in Shanghai for the 2025 FDI World Dental Congress (FDIWDC25), FDI had the opportunity to speak with Prof.Tamara Perić, chair of the section for preventive dentistry at the University of Belgrade’s Faculty of Dental Medicine in Serbia. In this interview, she shares her excitement about participating in the congress, reflects on key highlights from the scientific programme and offers practical advice for making the most of the event.

Prof. Perić, is this your first time attending FDIWDC?
Yes, it is my first time attending FDIWDC, both as a participant and as a speaker, and I could not be more excited! I have followed FDI for many years and have always appreciated its role in our professional community. FDIWDC25 promises to be one of the largest and most dynamic dental gatherings to date, and it is a true honour to be part of it.

I’m looking forward to reconnecting with colleagues from around the world and enjoying both the scientific and cultural experience this exceptional congress offers. I believe that FDIWDC25 will be a wonderful mix of professional exchange and personal inspiration. I hope to return home with fresh ideas, new collaborations and unforgettable memories.

Looking at the scientific programme, are there any sessions you are particularly enthusiastic about?
The scientific programme for FDIWDC25 is rich and comprehensive, truly reflecting the global diversity within our profession. It brings together distinguished international and regional leaders in dentistry to address a variety of contemporary topics and innovative approaches.

I will be giving two lectures, one focusing on current perspectives on caries management and another on aesthetics in young patients, and I am eager to exchange views on these subjects. There are so many sessions I would like to attend and so many outstanding speakers I look forward to hearing. Unfortunately, some sessions coincide with my lectures, but that is the kind of problem one is happy to have at such a dynamic congress! I hope to absorb as much as I can and to broaden my perspectives even further.

FDIWDC25 in Shanghai will be one of the biggest FDI congresses to date. What are your expectations, and do you have any tips for attendees?
All I can say is wow! I am truly amazed and grateful to be part of this extraordinary event. I expect a vibrant, high-energy congress that brings together professionals from every corner of the world. Being in such a stimulating environment always opens the door to unexpected opportunities.

My advice to attendees would be to plan your schedule in advance, stay curious and open to new ideas, and don’t forget to enjoy the cultural experience of being in China. Try something new and have fun during your free time—these moments often spark the most creative insights.
