At a press event on the opening day of IDS 2021, company representatives and dental professionals introduced and discussed the company’s new end-to-end solutions, which go beyond orthodontics to include restorative dental care. Align’s latest intra-oral scanner, the iTero Element 5D scanner, was on hand for live demonstrations of its increased image accuracy and speed and improved visualisation. The scanner is equipped with the newly released iTero Workflow 2.0 software, which features faster scanning, improved visualisation and enhanced patient communication tools that help increase practice efficiency, support better clinical diagnosis and drive patient engagement for treatment acceptance.
Markus Sebastian, senior vice president and managing director for the Europe, Middle East and Africa region, explained to Dental Tribune International that the new software provides “a faster, all-in-one scan with enhanced visualisation capabilities to improve patient communication, including the ability to capture, annotate and then share Invisalign simulations or restorative treatment plans digitally”.
Also on-site during the event was Dr Ingo Baresel, a practising dentist and president of the Deutschen Gesellschaft für digitale orale Abformung (German association for intra-oral scanning). Baresel commented that, in his experience, the iTero scanners and accompanying software and workflows are irreplaceable in his practice. “I would not work without them,” he emphasised.
Yuval Shaked, Align’s senior vice president and managing director of the iTero systems and services business, commented in press material: “Align’s commitment to innovation in digital orthodontics and restorative dentistry reflects our US$250 million annual investment in technology to develop products and services that provide doctors and their patients with a great treatment outcome and seamless experience through the Align Digital Platform.”
He added: “Our new iTero Workflow 2.0 software features were developed to simplify and streamline a doctor’s daily routine and increase practice efficiency. From a faster, all-in-one scan with enhanced visualisation capabilities to improved patient communication, including the ability to capture, annotate and then share Invisalign simulations or restorative treatment plans digitally, these new features provide doctors with the ability for better clinical diagnosis and help patients better understand their oral health conditions and the proposed treatment options.”
