BEGO will be bringing its portfolio of efficient and reliable prosthetic restoration options to the Digital Dentistry Show in Berlin in Germany. A workshop and presentation by the company will offer the opportunity to learn more about the ceramic-filled hybrid 3D-printing material VarseoSmile Crown ^plus and the Smart Veneering concept. In this interview, Robert Nicic, master dental technician and laboratory manager at the Department of Prosthodontics, Geriatric Dentistry and Craniomandibular Disorders at Charité—Universitätsmedizin Berlin, explains what participants can expect from BEGO’s offerings at the event.

Mr Nicic, BEGO is known for its pioneering work in dental prosthetics and implantology. Would you tell our readers about Charité’s collaboration with BEGO and how it has developed in recent years?
I have known BEGO for a long time, even before I began working at Charité. For me and many of my colleagues in dental technology, BEGO is an established name in the dental industry. BEGO’s workshop at DDS.Berlin will focus on its innovative solutions such as VarseoSmile Crown ^plus and Smart Veneering. What specific insights and skills can participants take away from this session?
I am part of this workshop and am giving a presentation on clinical cases that we conducted as part of a study with BEGO on VarseoSmile Crown ^plus. We will show participants the current and potential possibilities. Today’s digitalisation enables us to achieve predictable and reproducible aesthetic and functional results.

The SMART Veneering concept is an example of my successful collaboration with BEGO. My idea was immediately adopted, integrated into the BEGO process and validated. The method involves a simple splitting of files to separate implant components, frameworks and veneers from a fully anatomical design in the CAD program, generating an STL file for each. This complete freedom in production is revolutionary!

What are the main benefits of BEGO’s digital technologies and materials for dentists and dental technicians?
BEGO consistently translates its knowledge and experience into digital technology. Furthermore, BEGO is constantly researching new manufacturing processes and techniques in combination with 3D printing in order to optimise all digital processes.
