NEWPORT, Wales: Organised by the British Orthodontic Society, the 2025 British Orthodontic Conference (BOC) promises to bring together the entire UK orthodontic community. This year, the event will take place from 24 to 26 September at the International Convention Centre Wales (ICC Wales) in Newport. Attendees can look forward to three days of engaging presentations and insightful discussions by a diverse group of leading national and international experts, covering a wide range of advanced clinical topics in both the science and art of orthodontics.
The chair of the BOC 2025 committee, orthodontist Dr Guy Deeming, commented in a press release: “Now more than ever, it’s important as a society and as a profession that we come together to celebrate all that is good, not only in orthodontics, but also in medicine. The 2025 conference is an opportunity for the whole orthodontic community to come together and consolidate our profession so we’re able to weather any coming challenges both now and in the future. Past event feedback shows that the primary reasons for attending BOC are to learn, improve and network, and we have all those bases covered.”
Invited speakers who have already confirmed their participation at this year’s BOC include Drs Björn Ludwig, Jay Bowman, Simon Littlewood, Thor Henrikson, Dietmar Zuran and Richard Cousley. The agenda for the plenary platform will also star inspiring keynote presentations by Dr Hugh Montgomery, who is professor of intensive care medicine at University College London in England and known for his research in genetics, and Dr Sophie Scott, who is professor of cognitive neuroscience at University College London and a comedian to boot.
The conference programme will also include a practice development stream and parallel sessions for clinic support staff and the Orthodontic National Group, which represents orthodontic dental nurses and therapists. Additionally, the conference studio theatre will provide delegates with an opportunity for direct engagement with speakers through interactive question-and-answer sessions and insightful behind-the-scenes discussions. Attendees will be able to earn continuing professional development points through a blend of in-person and hybrid learning formats. Sessions will also run virtually for those unable to attend in person.
Furthermore, this year’s BOC will host the UK’s largest-ever orthodontic expo, showcasing next-generation technologies and services designed to enhance treatment outcomes and streamline practice workflows. Additionally, an in-exhibition theatre will host commercial presentations, live demonstrations and product previews.
Besides the educational programme, there will be ample opportunity for networking, forging alliances and socialising. On the Wednesday, delegates will have the opportunity to come together for welcome drinks, and this will be followed by Thursday evening’s lively carnival-themed party, featuring dancing and street food—all hosted on-site and included in the ticket price.
“We have a fantastic array of top league speakers who are not regulars on the conference circuit, so I’d advise colleagues to secure their places now to take advantage of early bird rates—and perhaps organise their diaries to enable their clinic team to attend too, as there is so much for everyone on the agenda. There will be a warm welcome in the hillsides—to borrow from the Welsh rugby anthem—and we can’t wait to meet up with colleagues old and new,” Dr Deeming stated.
An hour and a half from London, ICC Wales is a world-class, purpose-built venue. It can be easily accessed via road, rail or international air connections. A wide selection of hotels offering excellent value are available nearby, and for those travelling by car, there is ample parking space for up to 2,000 vehicles.
For delegates seeking fresh air between conference sessions and networking opportunities, the ICC Wales campus features picturesque walking paths through its own woodland grounds. Additionally, the adjoining Celtic Manor Resort boasts an internationally renowned golf course and luxury spa, making this destination ideal for delegates wishing to extend their visit into a memorable weekend getaway in Wales.
