BASEL, Switzerland: At the recent American Association of Orthodontics meeting in Los Angeles, U.S., the introduction of the CEREC Ortho SW 2.0 software highlighted the fact that the Dentsply Sirona CAD/CAM system can be used for orthodontic indications. Supported by digital impressions taken with Primescan, the new system allows for an improved model analysis and adds a new feature for treatment simulation.
Simulations are an excellent way for patients to know exactly what certain treatments will involve, and this is especially important in orthodontics. CEREC Ortho SW 2.0 gives users access to a number of orthodontic functions immediately after the digital impression has been taken with Primescan, the new intraoral scanner from Dentsply Sirona.
Because the model analysis can take place in such a short time and includes Bolton and space requirement analysis, it can be part of the scanning session, which means greater convenience for both patient and practitioner. “The CEREC Ortho SW 2.0 is the logical further development of the orthodontic workflow in the digital practice,” noted Dr Alexander Völcker, Group Vice President of CAD/CAM and Orthodontics at Dentsply Sirona.
Digital models have become the starting point for the production of various appliances, such as aligners, transfer matrices for indirect adhesion, lingual appliances and retainers. Interfaces are available that transfer the data in the required format with just a few clicks. “The orthodontist has many options for the further processing of the scan. One of them is SureSmile, our versatile platform for orthodontic indications. The digital workflow supports patient communication and ensures that treatment can start quickly,” explained Völcker.
