COLOGNE, Germany: As of 15 March, approximately three million people have fled Ukraine since the Russian invasion started in February, according to the United Nations. In order to help Ukrainian refugees, many organisations and individuals have become involved. In a recent statement, the European Association of Dental Implantologists (BDIZ EDI) has offered its support to its Ukrainian members.
Together with its partner organisations and other related associations from various European countries and India, BDIZ EDI strongly condemns the invasion of Ukraine and considers it a violation of international law.
“The medical situation in the war zone is disastrous. People [are dying] from acts of war, but also from a lack of medical care. Ukraine is suffering from shortages of medical supplies and everyday products,” the statement said.
Therefore, Dr Markus Tröltzsch, member of the board of BDIZ EDI is organising and supporting regional aid shipments to the Ukraine. He commented: “We are offering our support to our members in Ukraine who [are providing] medical and organisational assistance on the ground. Please contact us for assistance if you need it. We will be [pleased] to assist wherever and whenever we can.”
In addition, BDIZ EDI is supporting the joint fundraising campaign by the Stiftung Hilfswerk Deutscher Zahnärzte (Aid organisation of German dentists) and its patron, the Bundeszahnärztekammer (German dental association).
“We are all shocked by the aggressive attack on Ukraine. Our solidarity is with all the people there,” said President of the Bundeszahnärztekammer Prof. Christoph Benz in a press release. “In addition to European and international strategic and political measures, fast and concrete help for the people is now important, locally and also for the people who are fleeing to us,” he added.
Donors who provide their address details will receive a donation receipt. Depending on the donor’s country of residence, the donation may be tax-deductible.
