KRANJSKA GORA, Slovenia: This year’s dental session of the LA&HA (Laser and Health Academy) Symposium featured several presentations on effective laser techniques to improve the outcome of peri-implantitis treatments, shortening procedures and healing time while increasing comfort for both practitioners and patients.
Owing to the rising prevalence of peri-implantitis, special attention was drawn to two lectures on the subject. Dr Bogdan Crisan’s presentation, “The management of peri-implant diseases with LightWalker and the role of the photobiomodulation step in this treatment”, explained the TwinLight treatment concept for patients with peri-implantitis. The laser reduces the soft-tissue inflammatory parameters and is effective on hard tissue and implant surfaces too. Crisan also presented a new step in the management of peri-implant disease: the use of photo-biomodulation, a low-level laser therapy that stimulates biological systems for a therapeutic and healing effect. According to Crisan, the results thus far have been positive.
The highlight of the dental session was Dr Massimo Frosecchi’s presentation titled “Peri-implantitis and mucositis—Understand the phenomenon, prevention and treatment possibilities with Evolute protocols”, in which he discussed some of the most frequent complications in implant dentistry: mucositis and peri-implantitis. He considered several factors that influence the onset and progression of the latter and concluded that lasers are one of the most promising tools for successful treatment.
All presentations at the LA&HA Symposium are available in the form of webinars on the Fotona mobile app for all iOS and Android phones and tablets for registered Fotona laser users.
