GILLINGHAM, UK: For the second consecutive year, Henry Schein UK has provided dental supplies to a team from North Carolina in the US providing treatment to underprivileged children in Chișinău in Moldova. The project, which is being run in collaboration with the International College of Dentists (ICD), also entailed teaching Moldovan dental students proper dental procedures.
The team, led by Dr Stephen Mackler, most recently travelled to Moldova in May and worked in cooperation with the dental clinic at Moldova State University. There, they were also supported by several private practices in the area, who provided the team with access to their practices to provide fillings, crowns, extractions, cleanings and sealants to children.
“Due to a lack of financial resources, dental treatment is not a priority in Moldova,” said Dr Burton A. Horwitz, a North Carolina-based paediatric dentist and Fellow of the ICD. “Children suffer especially from this situation. Our continued support makes a great difference to these children’s lives and we are grateful that we are—thanks to the fantastic volunteer work of so many people and to the ICD’s and Henry Schein’s support—in the position to help.”
Over the last six years, Henry Schein has collaborated with the ICD as a diamond sponsor. In addition, Henry Schein supports the ICD’s Global Visionary Fund through Henry Schein Cares, the company’s worldwide corporate social responsibility programme.
“This worthwhile programme to enhance children’s oral health, to raise their awareness of the importance of oral hygiene and health, and to educate local dental students is a perfect fit to our Henry Schein Cares programme,” said Simon Gambold, Vice President of Marketing of the Europe, Middle East and Africa Dental Group at Henry Schein.
“This programme aims to increase access to oral care, to build capacity and to support dental professionals in the provision of desperately needed treatment and preventive care and we are happy to be able to support this long-term mission through our partnership with the International College of Dentists,” he continued.
