COLOGNE, Germany: The 38th IDS was officially opened yesterday morning, with the ribbon being cut by representatives of the German dental industry, IDS staging company Koelnmesse and an international sporting champion. Olympic medalist and sports ambassador Britta Heidemann joined show organisers in an opening ceremony that closely aligned the world’s largest dental trade show with its greatest sporting event: the Olympic Games.
“Faster, higher, stronger: IDS reminds us of the objectives of the Olympic Games in many ways,” stated Mark Stephen Pace, Chairman of the Board of the Association of the German Dental Industry. “The dental industry has been preparing for this for the last two years and each of us aims to be better than we were at the last event in 2017—we all want to stand on the winners’ podium at the end,” he commented.
Gerald Böse, CEO of Koelnmesse, said that IDS 2019 is going to be bigger and better than it was in 2017. “With 2,300 exhibiting companies from 60 countries and 170,000 m2 of exhibition space, we have created the space to meet the demands of the industry, and we are confident that visitor numbers will top those seen two years ago,” he stated. Let the games begin!
