PARIS, France: This year’s Annual Scientific Meeting of the European Association for Osseointegration (EAO congress), which was scheduled to take place in Milan in Italy, has been transformed into a digital event, owing to the ongoing global SARS-CoV-2 pandemic. After the success of its first online event in 2020, the EAO has announced the second edition of its Digital Days event, which will be streamed live from 12 to 14 October and will feature over 30 innovative and interactive shows.
The EAO congress has presented qualitative scientific research for three decades. This year, over 70 international experts will be on hand to discuss and debate the most current topics in implant dentistry. The programme expands on last year’s format and includes even more interactivity. The “Battle” and the new “Challenge of the night” sessions offer participants the opportunity to vote for those experts presenting the most convincing arguments.
Other highlights include: “Prime time debates”, where specialists compete against one another to tackle a controversial topic; practical and informative “Tell me more about” shows featuring audience Q & As; “Is it true?” fact-checking sessions, during which twelve leading experts challenge common assumptions; and interviews with renowned clinicians in the “Late night show”. In addition, EAO Digital Days will present industry partner forums, a clinical video competition, more than 150 scientific e-posters and online networking opportunities.
Dr Bjarni Pjetursson, chair of the EAO Digital Days event, said in a press release: “The past 18 months have been very challenging as the world has responded to the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite the challenges, it has also been a period of resilience and innovation.” According to the organiser, the online congress “perfectly encapsulates this spirit of innovation and maintains the EAO’s longstanding commitment to delivering high-level scientific content and bridging the gap between science and clinical practice”.
The sessions will be streamed live every evening from 6:30 p.m. CEST. The entire evening’s programme will be streamed for viewers in North and Central America from 6:30 p.m. CST on the same day and streamed on the next day from 6:30 p.m. SGT for attendees in the Asia-Pacific region. Participants can register free of charge to watch the sessions, and the videos will be available on demand for one month.
