SINGAPORE: After three years of planning and preparation, the organiser of the ITI World Symposium 2020, which was scheduled to take place on 14–16 May, has postponed the event to 1–3 September 2021. The decision was made in light of the rapid global escalation of COVID-19 cases with the subsequent travel and other restrictions being imposed, which would probably have rendered it impossible to hold a large-scale meeting with international attendance this year, the International Team for Implantology (ITI) stated.
The venue remains Singapore EXPO. Tickets already purchased will automatically be valid for the new dates. Registrants who wish to have their registration fees refunded are advised to contact the registration office.
The ITI World Symposium is one of the largest events in the implant dentistry calendar worldwide and has taken place every three years since 1988. This year, the ITI’s flagship event would have taken place in Asia for the first time. A total of 6,000 participants had been expected, the greatest proportion of these from South East Asia.
To date, almost 120,000 cases of infection by SARS-CoV-2 have been confirmed worldwide since the first report in December 2019. Over 80,000 of these are in China.
