VIENNA, Austria: First introduced at the International Dental Show in March this year and now showcased at EuroPerio11, which currently takes place in Vienna, the GBT Machine represents EMS’s latest contribution to advancing prophylaxis. Drawing on more than 40 years of expertise, the device is engineered for Guided Biofilm Therapy (GBT) treatments. It enhances patient and practitioner comfort, streamlines workflows, and optimises treatment efficiency and practice profitability.
The intuitive user interface, automatic handpiece recognition and standardised GBT mode enable simple operation, an optimised workflow and minimally invasive treatment. Treatment and device data can be viewed on the MyEMS dashboard thanks to the smart connectivity function.
At the International Dental Show 2025, Celso da Costa (left), director of the Swiss Dental Academy and director of marketing at EMS; Ruth Christophel, group leader in the company’s brand marketing team; and General Manager Dr Ernst Wühr introduced the new device and outlined practical benefits for users.
The user interface with three settings for power and water simplifies the daily workflow. GBT mode is automatically activated when a handpiece is removed, offering optimum power and water settings to help prevent over-instrumentation. The new PIEZON PS NO PAIN MAX module adapts incrementally to the type of tartar and enables even gentler and more comfortable removal.
Functional design meets smart technology
The GBT Machine was developed with 30% less plastic as part of EMS’s ongoing commitment to sustainability. Aluminium and tempered glass facilitate cleaning and disinfection. The design of the new GBT Machine station has also been updated, making it even slimmer and more elegant. The water bottle now supplies both handpieces, ensuring improved workflow and greater autonomy.
A smart connectivity function boosts efficiency even more: maintenance requirements and remote maintenance are displayed both on the device and on the networked MyEMS dashboard, which contains usage and treatment data. GBT-certified practices benefit from a special feature: the GBT letters on the device light up in pink as soon as a practice is officially certified, highlighting the certification and the excellent standards.
EMS is presenting its new GBT Machine at EuroPerio11.
Swiss quality since 1981
Since 1981, EMS has continuously raised the bar with its original Swiss products. GBT-certified practices lead the global GBT movement and stand for the highest standards in prophylaxis. Supported by training from the Swiss Dental Academy, they apply the latest scientific and technological knowledge in daily practice.
The GBT protocol at a glance
The GBT protocol was developed in close cooperation between EMS, practitioners and scientists. It comprises eight evidence-based treatment steps for prophylaxis as well as non-surgical periodontal and peri-implant treatment. Treatment is minimally invasive and offers maximum prevention—with excellent safety, efficiency and comfort for both patient and practitioner. Painless and highly accepted by patients, GBT provides personalised recommendations for oral hygiene at home—a key factor for long-term oral health, high recall rates and sustainable practice success. GBT-certified practices stand for quality, success and satisfaction for the entire team.
