HANAU, Germany: Kulzer, an international provider of dental products and services, has announced the appointment of a new CEO. Marc Berendes succeeds Akira Misawa, who is returning to Japan to take over new responsibilities after the successful integration of Kulzer into the Mitsui Chemicals Group.

A member of the current management board, Canadian Berendes was elected to ensure continuity, the company stated. He has been its chief sales officer since 2016 and therefore is familiar with both Kulzer and the dental industry. In this role, Beredes was responsible for sales, service and marketing. Previously, Berendes held management positions in sales, marketing and finance for a number of prominent health care companies.

As the new CEO, Berendes will focus on supporting Kulzer’s customers in optimising the workflows in dental offices and laboratories. A faster time to market for product innovations is an additional objective for him. “We will further develop our vision to be a lifetime partner of our customers. We will focus innovation in those areas that maximise productivity gains for dentists and dental technicians and create the solutions and services that help our customers restore patients’ oral health,” Berendes said.

The new CEO also intends pursuing the expansion of the business in the Middle East, South America and Asia, as well as the Kulzer Service offering. “I’m proud of what we have achieved already and we will continue to grow,” he stated.

Kulzer also announced other changes to its board of management. Hiromi Hayashida in his new position as Senior Executive Vice President will be responsible for legal and regulatory affairs, quality and global safety management. In addition, he will play an important role in maximising the potential synergies that exist between the Mitsui Chemicals Group and Kulzer.

Hayashida has been part of the management team of Kulzer North America since 2017 and been with the Mitsui Chemicals Group since 1989. He has had a number of different international management assignments within the group, the majority being US-based.

New to the board of management is Stefan Klomann, who will join the company on 16 July and as chief marketing officer be responsible for the marketing division. Klomann has many years of experience in marketing and has held various senior leadership positions at well-known dental companies.

The new chief sales officer will be announced soon, Kulzer said. Unchanged members of the board are Andrea von Popowski (Chief HR Officer), Andreas Bacher (Chief Operating Officer/Chief Strategy Officer) and Clemens Höß (Chief Financial Officer). Yusuke Yoshida previously took over the new position of Chief Technology Officer and in this role is responsible for research and development, as well as project and product management.
