COLOGNE, Germany: Today, Dental Tribune International (DTI) held its biannual publishers’ meeting in Cologne, the day before the opening of the 41st International Dental Show (IDS). Network partners travelled from dental markets around Europe and as far afield as Singapore and the US to discuss the current state of dentistry and the newest developments concerning the global specialist publishing group. New partners and projects were introduced as the network marked the key milestone of 50 years of innovative dental media.

At the event, held at Koelnmesse, DTI CEO Torsten Oemus addressed the challenges that dentistry has faced since the last meeting in 2023. He said: “Last year was a challenging year for dentistry. Not only did the industry change greatly, but the pace of change accelerated. Whereas oral care has traditionally been somewhat insulated from world events, now the geopolitical arena is affecting dentistry and dental practitioners greatly.” Oemus explained that the effect of the changes taking place in the industry is proving difficult to predict. For example, 2024 yielded the hitherto strongest sales of print media for OEMUS MEDIA, DTI’s German sister company, despite competitor print publications in other regions suffering heavy losses. “These developments are not a total surprise, but they are accelerating,” Oemus added.

The meeting provided an opportunity to introduce two new members of the Dental Tribune network. New partners from the Netherlands spoke about the Dental Tribune Netherlands Edition and outlined trends in dental practice in the country. Group members also learned about the addition of a new partner in Malaysia, Dental 360. Having an established dental network in the country, Dental 360 will leverage its local business to revamp Dental Tribune ASEAN, which was officially launched in print and digital format in Malaysia last year and has since expanded to serve dentists throughout South East Asian dental markets. Dental Tribune ASEAN and DTI are also collaborating on a new major dental show: Dentistry Unplugged. The three-day exhibition is set to début in Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia from 21 to 23 November.

The minds behind WIZOM: Dr Valérie Sabet and Prof. Robert André Gaudin.

Members of the network also heard the latest updates concerning WIZDOM, an online learning platform for dental students. The chief medical editor at WIZDOM, Valérie Sabet, explained that the platform was officially launched in German-speaking markets in January and represents an exciting collaboration with leading European universities. The platform contains all the content needed to pass dental examinations in Germany, and plans are in place to expand it to the US and other English-speaking dental markets.

The meeting marked a special milestone for the Dental Tribune network as it celebrates 50 years of success in the dental media landscape. Oemus explained: “We have now been doing this for 30 years at OEMUS MEDIA and 20 years at DTI. We have seen the industry change dramatically over this time, and this important anniversary comes at another turning point for the industry.”

Artificial intelligence (AI), for example, is bringing great change to the industry, and the publishing group is launching a specialist magazine dedicated to AI in dentistry after IDS 2025. Oemus took the opportunity to introduce reena.ai, an AI-powered software solution that exemplifies the vast application of AI for dental clinics. Oemus commented: “Besides diagnostics and equipment, AI is very much making its way into managing the dental office, analysing patient data and much more. It is a broad field right now and we are keeping up to speed with the latest developments.”
