AMSTERDAM, Netherlands: Last week at EuroPerio9 in Amsterdam, Nobel Biocare announced a global exclusive partnership agreement with GalvoSurge Dental, a Switzerland-based manufacturer of dental devices. The two companies are bringing to market a new and innovative cleaning system for long-term implant maintenance on all major implant brands.

GalvoSurge’s Dental Implant Cleaning System GS 1000 provides a unique protocol for decontamination of dental implants by removing biofilm directly from the implant surface. Most other methods available attempt to clean implants from the outside in and may thus be limited by the macro- and micro-geometry of the implant. The system is based on an electrolytic process that stimulates the production of hydrogen, which lifts off the bacterial film. The innovative process, which only takes 2–3 minutes per implant, is intended to be atraumatic and pain-free and to maintain the implant surface integrity.

The GalvoSurge Dental Implant Cleaning System has been under development since 2012 and will be available in 2019. Nobel Biocare and GalvoSurge are currently engaging with leading universities and researchers to establish treatment protocols for implant care and long-term maintenance.

Nobel Biocare President Hans Geiselhöringer said: “With the increasing number of patients receiving dental implant treatment, the importance of long-term maintenance is becoming more important. Following an intensive collaboration with leading clinicians who developed GalvoSurge, customers of all major implant brands will soon have additional means to provide lasting implant care for their patients. With this new partnership, we are again at the forefront of innovation in the dental industry.”

GalvoSurge founders and internationally prominent clinicians and researchers commented: “This innovative technology is unique, fascinating and one step ahead of other technologies and protocols,” said Dr Markus Schlee. Dr Urs Brodbeck added, “Finally, there are strong indications that we have developed a better cleaning technique for infected implant surfaces than commonly used methods.”

During Nobel Biocare’s press conference at EuroPerio9 on Thursday, 21 June, Nobel Biocare also showcased NobelPearl, its alumina-toughened zirconia-based implant. In addition, it was announced that the Nobel Biocare Global Symposium in 2019 will take place in Las Vegas under the theme “Knowledge changes everything”. Featuring a change of location, programme and venue, the combination of expert knowledge alongside new innovations to be revealed will “mark a true transformation in implant treatment care”.
