BRUSSELS, Belgium: Perio Master Clinic conferences are about to become a more global affair: a series of three conferences will be held in Europe, the Americas and Asia within one year. Perio Master Clinic was launched in 2014 by the European Federation of Periodontology (EFP) to provide training on the best periodontal techniques for dental clinicians.
Dental practitioners from all around the world are invited to Perio Master Clinic 2023 in Antwerp in Belgium in March, to International Perio Master Clinic 2023 in León in Mexico in May and to International Perio Master Clinic 2024 in Singapore in January 2024. In principle, Perio Master Clinic is a triennial conference held in Europe with global leading speakers, followed by an updated edition on a different continent the next year, featuring additional local experts. The coming series of three iterations in a row is due to calendar changes caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The philosophy of Perio Master Clinic is based on a distinctive hands-on approach to improve the skills and understanding of all dental clinicians—the experienced as well as the relatively newly qualified. It aims to deliver the latest and most advanced techniques in key practical areas of gingivae-related dentistry. That is why, unlike the EFP’s EuroPerio congresses, each Perio Master Clinic conference focuses on a specific topic.
“Perio-ortho synergy” is the topic chosen for Perio Master Clinic 2023 in Antwerp from 3 to 4 March, which will be led by chair Peter Garmyn and scientific chair Prof. Virginie Monnet-Corti. The conference will focus on how patients with periodontitis can be treated with a combined periodontal and orthodontic approach in order to improve aesthetic and functional outcomes. This is the first time that the common ground between periodontics and orthodontics will be systematically addressed in a major international conference.
Led by conference chair Dr Alejandro García and scientific chair Prof. Anton Sculean, International Perio Master Clinic 2023 will be held from 5 to 6 May, marking the first time that this EFP conference has ventured to the Americas. The topic will be “Hard- and soft-tissue aesthetic reconstructions around teeth and dental implants—current and future challenges”, and the conference will feature an outstanding faculty of leading international speakers, including some from the US and Latin America. Registration is available through the EFP website.
International Perio Master Clinic 2024 will take place from 19 to 20 January and will address periodontic and orthodontic synergy similarly to Perio Master Clinic 2023. Featuring Prof. Philip Preshaw as conference chair, Dr Jonathan Phua as co-chair and Prof. Monnet-Corti as scientific chair, International Perio Master Clinic 2024 will bring the brand to Asia for the second time, following on the success of International Perio Master Clinic 2019 in Hong Kong.
“We are particularly proud of the global impact that our Perio Master Clinic conference brand is making among the dental clinicians around the world, and we see the organisation of these major events in Europe, Latin America and Asia as a natural consequence of the worldwide scope of the EFP’s projects and publications,” said Dr Monique Danser, member of the organising committee of all three conferences and EFP treasurer.
