Growing recognition of the relationship between oral and systemic health has placed greater emphasis on the role of dental teams within wider healthcare. Multi-morbidity is one area in which dental professionals can contribute, both because it has implications for oral health and because dental visits offer opportunities to identify and address relevant lifestyle factors. A webinar to be hosted by NSK Academy on 23 July will provide practical guidance on how multi-morbidity can be addressed in routine dental care by incorporating lifestyle medicine approaches.

The aim of the webinar is to give attendees clinically applicable, evidence-based strategies for identifying lifestyle-related risk factors chairside and encouraging behavioural change. It will also guide attendees on implementing a preventive, holistic approach in routine dental practice.

The webinar will be presented by two award-winning dental professionals, dentist Dr Crystal Marruganti and dental therapist Cat Edney. They will discuss how oral health and systemic health can be improved by integrating principles of lifestyle medicine into daily dental practice to help prevent and manage multi-morbidity. They will specifically place emphasis on the impact of various lifestyle factors, such as nutrition and physical activity, on periodontitis.

Dr Marruganti has a special interest in periodontics, and her research examines the interaction between systemic disease, lifestyle factors and periodontal disease, as well as the long-term success of dental implants. Edney is also a clinical educator and a globally recognised key opinion leader. Her work focuses on advancing clinical practice through collaborative, evidence-based restorative and periodontal care.

The webinar, titled “Tackling multimorbidity starting from the dental chair: Why lifestyle medicine matters in everyday dental practice”, will take place on 23 July at 8 p.m. CEST. Dental professionals can register free of charge. Participants can obtain one continuing education credit after completing a post-webinar quiz. Further information can be found at nsk-academy.com.
