VIENNA, Austria: In just two weeks, more than 10,000 oral health professionals from across the globe are expected to gather for EuroPerio11, the leading international congress on periodontal health and dental implantology, taking place from 14 to 17 May. A public awareness event for Gum Health Day will be held in Vienna ahead of the congress, the European Federation of Periodontology (EFP) has announced.

Organised by the EFP, EuroPerio11 will present the latest trends, techniques and scientific developments in the treatment of periodontal disease and the placement of dental implants. The programme will include live surgical procedures and discussions on key topics such as the connection between oral and systemic health. Relevant issues include diabetes, cardiovascular conditions, pregnancy and Alzheimer’s disease. Dentists, dental hygienists, researchers and students will gather to explore innovations that are shaping the future of oral healthcare.

“EuroPerio11 is the world’s leading congress on periodontal health and dental care. It is where the latest science meets practical solutions to help individuals retain their teeth for life,” said congress chair Prof. Anton Sculean. “From advancing the understanding of the relationship between periodontal and systemic health to introducing novel treatments, the event brings together global experts committed to enhancing oral healthcare,” he added.

Norbert Kettner, CEO of the Vienna Tourist Board, commented: “Medical congresses such as EuroPerio11 are of significant importance to Vienna. As highlighted in the current meeting industry report, they account for the majority of congress-related overnight stays, generate substantial economic value and support year-round employment. Hosting the world’s leading congress on periodontics and implant dentistry underscores Vienna’s status as a premier global meeting destination and contributes to strengthening health literacy among the local population. We sincerely thank the EFP for placing its trust in Vienna.”

Ahead of the congress, Vienna residents will have the opportunity to participate in Gum Health Day, the EFP’s annual awareness initiative promoting the importance of healthy gingivae for general well-being. The event will take place on 12 May from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the EFP tent located in front of Sigmund Freud Private University at Freudplatz 3. Free dental check-ups will also be offered in the gondolas of the Wiener Riesenrad, a giant Ferris wheel.

Further information about the initiative is available at www.zahnkliniksfu.at. Details regarding the congress can be found at www.efp.org/europerio/europerio11.
