CHARLOTTE, N.C., US: Dentsply Sirona has announced the appointment of Daniel Scavilla as president and CEO, effective from 1 August. Scavilla, an experienced executive who has worked for more than 30 years in the medical technology and pharmaceutical industries, currently serves on the company’s board of directors. He will succeed Simon Campion, who will step down on 31 July.

Scavilla most recently served as president and CEO of Globus Medical, where he led the US$3 billion (€2.76 billion*) acquisition of NuVasive and the integration of the two organisations into the world’s second-largest spine technology company. His tenure at Globus Medical included roles as chief financial officer (CFO), executive vice president, chief commercial officer and president of trauma, where he expanded manufacturing and distribution operations and launched the orthopaedics and trauma division.

Gregory T. Lucier, chairman of the board at Dentsply Sirona, said: “Dan’s appointment as CEO underscores the board’s strong and unwavering commitment to delivering enhanced value to shareholders and positioning Dentsply Sirona for future success. Dan is a seasoned healthcare veteran, and we’re confident that his three decades of executive leadership experience and disciplined focus on commercial growth, product innovation, and financial and operational excellence make him well suited to lead the company into its next chapter. There is significant untapped opportunity across the dental market, and we believe that Dan is the right leader to help accelerate the company’s business transformation, reposition Dentsply Sirona as an industry leader and deliver long-term value creation.”

Scavilla commented: “Dentsply Sirona is a company that I have admired for its trusted brands, and since joining the board in February, I have gained an even deeper appreciation for the enormous potential of our business, people and products. As I step into the CEO role, I look forward to working with the team to continue the company’s transformation and drive sustained profitable growth and enhance value for all stakeholders.”

Campion, who is also stepping down from the board, expressed confidence in the transition: “It has been a privilege to lead the company. We have built a strong foundation, and I’m confident Dentsply Sirona will thrive under Dan’s leadership.”

Scavilla will continue as a board director, but will no longer serve on the audit and finance committee.

Recent leadership developments

Scavilla’s appointment follows other significant changes in Dentsply Sirona’s leadership. In June, the company appointed Matthew E. Garth as executive vice president and CFO. Garth became the fifth person to hold the CFO role—interim or permanent—in five years.

In an interview with Dental Tribune International at this year’s International Dental Show, Campion confirmed that bringing Scavilla and Michael Barber on to the board was part of the company’s ongoing transformation: “Mike and Dan are two proven leaders with skill sets that are additive to the board. We achieved meaningful progress on our transformation journey by completing key initiatives and milestones in 2024, and our momentum continues into 2025 to shape the organisation, drive efficiencies and enable investment.”
