SEOUL, South Korea: Osstem Implant has expanded its global presence from an initial network of 12 overseas subsidiaries established in 2006 to 33 entities across 29 countries. Over the past two decades, the company has built a solid foundation for sustainable growth in international markets by leveraging its strengths in research and development (R & D), offering a structured clinical education system and employing a direct-sales business model. Osstem Implant plans to further accelerate its overseas market development as part of its strategy to strengthen its position in the global implant market.
Osstem Implant’s international expansion began in the mid-2000s. Starting with Taiwan in 2005, the company established its first wave of overseas subsidiaries across 12 countries—Germany, India, Russia, China, Hong Kong, Singapore, Japan, the US, Thailand and Malaysia in 2006, followed by Australia in 2007. These subsidiaries developed product portfolios tailored to local market conditions and clinical environments and localised clinical education and sales expertise to establish a presence in their respective markets.
These early overseas operations laid the groundwork for Osstem Implant’s current global footprint, which includes an export network reaching more than 100 countries. Following two decades of sustained expansion by its first overseas subsidiaries, the company says it now ranks third globally in implant market share.
Osstem Implant attributes its international growth to three core strengths: product quality supported by sustained investment in R & D, a business model enabling close engagement with dental professionals and a comprehensive clinical education system supporting continuing development. Since its founding, the company has invested approximately 11% of its annual revenue in R & D. Its central research institute comprises approximately 30,000 m2 of research facilities, including around 10,000 m2 of laboratory space, and employs more than 900 researchers. This infrastructure supports the continual development of implant solutions designed to address diverse clinical environments and treatment trends worldwide. The company states that it competes alongside leading global brands in surface treatment technologies and implant design while differentiating itself through procedural efficiency and clinical usability.
Osstem Implant’s clinical education system focuses on hands-on, practice-oriented programmes that combine theoretical instruction with direct clinical application. Its flagship Osstem Master Course follows a step-by-step curriculum aligned with dentists’ levels of clinical experience, from introductory to advanced stages. According to the company, more than 150,000 dentists worldwide have completed its education programmes to date, and its education-first, sales-second approach has supported the gradual expansion of its market presence.
Its decision to maintain a direct-sales structure in overseas markets, despite the associated investment requirements, has supported close communication between local subsidiaries and dental professionals, enabling clinical and market needs to be addressed efficiently. Looking ahead, the company says it will continue to strengthen locally driven strategies across R & D, education and sales, aligned with the characteristics and objectives of individual markets, to support continued global growth.
