ATHENS, Greece: Endodontic enthusiasts from all around the world travelled to the Eugenides Foundation in Athens recently to attend the 25th anniversary edition of ROOTS SUMMIT. With its strongly evidence-based scientific programme, ROOTS SUMMIT 2024 continued to enhance global endodontics, and the meeting was enjoyed by speakers and attendees alike.

ROOTS SUMMIT 2024 kicked off with a series of hands-on courses aimed at advancing the skills of dental professionals and introducing them to the latest in endodontic care. These were followed by a comprehensive lecture programme featuring 11 prominent endodontists from around the world sharing their insights and experiences. Spanish specialist dentist Dr Ruth Perez Alfayate, for example, discussed complex diagnosis in endodontics. Greek endodontist Dr Antonis Chaniotis focused on the management of root canal blockages, and Prof. Aviad Tamse from Israel explored the challenges associated with vertical root fractures in endodontically treated teeth.

“ROOTS SUMMIT is less directly associated with the industry compared with other meetings. The speakers are more clinically oriented, and I think this makes it a bit different. It’s a nice platform,” said ROOTS SUMMIT speaker Prof. Matthias Zehnder, a Swiss endodontist who lectured on irrigation and disinfection of the root canal.

Another speaker, US endodontist Dr Rajiv Patel, who presented on dental trauma, told Dental Tribune International at the event: “For me, ROOTS SUMMIT is where my journey in endodontics started. It is one of the best meetings out there when it comes to endodontics, and it is like going back to old friends.”

Impressions from ROOTS SUMMIT 2024

The Saturday evening provided an opportunity for ROOTS SUMMIT attendees to mingle at the Ark restaurant, perched on the Aegean Sea. Attendees were treated to classic cocktails and inventive Greek cuisine throughout the evening.

Commenting on the 25th anniversary of the event, co-chairman Steve Jones said: “Some of our attendees have been around for more than 20 years and keep coming back because they know exactly what they are going to get—great endodontic education!”

Scientific chairman Dr David E. Jaramillo commented that ROOTS SUMMIT is able to maintain a balance between the meeting’s clinical focus and social aspects. “Our attendees really enjoy the enthusiasm that everyone brings to the meeting, and that’s what I really love about our event,” he shared.

ROOTS SUMMIT attendee Dr Hetal N. Buch, who travelled to Athens from India, emphasised: “ROOTS has a really special place in my heart because I have grown my practice from it. The first meeting I attended was in 2010. All these years, ROOTS SUMMIT has given us inspiration to grow our clinical practice, because all the tricks and tips that we get are excellent.”

The dates and venue for the next ROOTS SUMMIT will be announced later this year. More information on the congress can be found at www.roots-summit.com.
