CHICAGO, U.S.: With the broad scope of technological advancements in digital dentistry continually growing, it is obvious that digital is the future of dentistry. On Feb. 23, South Carolina-based company 3D Systems unveiled its NextDent 5100 and 18 new NextDent resins, bringing the entire NextDent portfolio to 30 materials. 3D Systems released the new dental appliance printer at LMT LAB DAY Chicago.

The NextDent 5100 is powered by 3D Systems’ proprietary Figure 4 technology, which facilitates high-speed 3-D printing of orthodontic and prosthodontic appliances. According to the company, the latest additions to its 3-D digital dentistry portfolio, which includes solutions for dental laboratories and clinics of all sizes, will support patient care, improve productivity, lower costs and save time for both patient and practitioner.

By incorporating the NextDent 5100 into their workflow, 3D Systems believes that dental laboratories and clinics will be able to address more indications with one product. “We’re bringing a complete digital dentistry solution to the market—combining an unmatched materials portfolio with leading 3-D printing technology, software and services,” said Vyomesh Joshi, President and CEO of 3D Systems. “We offer the industry’s widest range of regulatory-approved 3-D printing materials and technologies that allow dental labs and clinics of every size to drive precision, productivity, and efficiency at a reduced cost for a wide range of dental applications.”

The NextDent 5100 solution is currently in beta testing with select customers and will be priced below $10,000 (€10,000 in EU countries). The company intends to take preorders in the second quarter and general availability is planned for summer 2018. According to 3D Systems, feedback from customers testing the printer have highlighted its precision, ease of use, speed, efficiency and cost-effectiveness.

3D Systems has also released the new FabPro 1000. The company previously introduced this printer for jewelry and engineering applications and has now expanded its capabilities to dental indications. Designed as a low-cost entry for customers who are new to 3-D printing, the printer can now be preordered and its general availability is planned for spring 2018.
