California Dental Association cancels its annual Anaheim meeting

SACRAMENTO, Calif., USA: Referring to the latest public health guidance designed to curtail the spread of COVID-19, the California Dental Association has cancelled CDA Presents The Art and Science of Dentistry. The annual meeting had been scheduled for May 14–16 in Anaheim, Calif.

The March 19 announcement on the meeting’s website stated: “The health and safety of our greater dental community is always CDA’s highest priority, and we did not make this decision lightly. It was informed by recent guidance issued by the World Health Organization and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to cancel all gatherings of 50 people or more for the next eight weeks, as well as Governor (Gavin) Newsom’s recent order on mass gatherings in California.”

According to meeting organizers, all registration fees will be automatically refunded within 60 days. No action or request is needed from attendees. For attendees who booked within CDA's room block, CDA confirmed that it will cancel hotel reservations, and no action is needed. If reservations were not made through CDA's room block, attendees are being directed to contact the hotel directly.

The CDA is offering online and audio learning options at no cost to help members and their dental team participate in C.E. The association continues to prepare for its other annual meeting, in San Francisco, Sept. 10–12, with plans to expand programming.

The Anaheim meeting website also includes information on a variety of other options for members to use to access continuing education opportunities. Additionally, the website cda.org/covid19 includes information and tools the association has compiled to provide its members with dentistry focused COVID-19 information to support practices and patients.
