LONDON, England:“The future of aligner orthodontics”—the theme for the sixth congress of the European Aligner Society (EAS)—sets the stage for global leading lights in clear aligner orthodontics and digital dentistry to deliver insights and expertise across a range of topics during in-depth clinical and best-business practice sessions. The event will take place on the Greek island of Rhodes on 22–24 May and feature company workshops on the latest innovations, a team’s session and plenary lectures. This congress will provide an ideal forum for clinicians from Europe and across the world to improve their knowledge and clinical skills and to enhance the science and art of aligner orthodontics.

The programme will open on the Thursday with a series of workshops, most of which will run repeatedly at different times throughout the day, enabling delegates to attend whichever best meet their needs. The workshops will cover a diverse range of topics, including advancements in digital orthodontics, innovations in aligner technology and treatment, techniques for improving treatment precision and predictability, clinical strategies for interproximal reduction, and digital workflow optimisation for efficient orthodontic care. Two will include a hands-on component.

A parallel practice team session covering a range of subjects will run in the afternoon. The speakers will address leadership in healthcare, strategies for improving efficiency and profitability, the impact of emerging digital technologies, the role of treatment coordinators, the importance of patient-centred service, and the development of effective digital marketing strategies and personal branding.

The Friday will kick off with the congress opening ceremony hosted by EAS President Dr Gina Theodoridis. The programme will then split out into two key themes for the plenary sessions. Speakers on “The future of aligner orthodontics” theme in the morning will cover shape memory aligners, orthodontics fundamentals, digital advancements and clinical applications for open bite and gingival recession. Topics will also include in-house aligner fabrication, CBCT imaging for treatment planning and evolving aligner biomechanics.

For the afternoon theme, “Aligners, auxiliaries, and 3D design”, the presenters will discuss advanced mechanics, skeletal anchorage and innovative appliances. They will also speak on the in-office printing of aligners, non-surgical orthopaedic correction strategies, and the role of AI and 3D technology in modern orthodontics.

The Saturday programme will open with a talk by Karen Jaques from Operation Smile, with which EAS announced a funding partnership last year. The day’s presentations will then split into three themes. “Treatment planning, materials and outcomes” will cover deep bite correction, envisioned possibilities of aligner orthodontics and approaches to Class II correction. Discussions will also explore the relationship between orthodontics and facial rejuvenation, as well as the potential of new 3D-printed night aligners. “Young speakers” will address maxillary expansion with shape memory aligners, assess the performance of aligners in bilateral first premolar extraction cases and present a study on aligner treatment and its environmental significance. “Interdisciplinary treatment, TMJ and surgery” will discuss 3D digital planning and smile design for complex cases, comprehensive treatment for adult patients, the integration of clear aligners with orthognathic surgery and the combination of digital orthodontics and orthognathic surgery.

The EAS congress, of course, has a special social programme planned so that attendees can mingle with old friends and make new ones. On Thursday evening, it will start with a welcome reception with drinks and canapés. Friday will offer a traditional Greek dancing feast, giving guests an experience of the joy of Greek culture. The congress will close with a farewell reception, followed by the Party in the Dome, where delegates will have a chance to network and share their experiences and thoughts about what they have learned and discussed.
