COLOGNE, Germany: Yesterday, Henry Schein held an exclusive media session that brought the international dental media into direct dialogue with Stanley M. Bergman, the company’s chairman of the board and CEO, and Andrea Albertini, CEO of global distribution and technology. Together, the thought leaders asked, where has the dental industry been, where it is now, and where it is headed?
Stanley M. Bergman, chairman of the board and CEO at Henry Schein.
Bergman pointed out that Henry Schein had provided a global perspective on digital dentistry ten years earlier, at IDS 2015. “We gave you some views of where we thought the industry was heading. Today, we would like to give you a view of where we think we are today and talk about the future of oral health.” He explained that the future of digital dental technology will require integration of the key digital pillars of devices, software and artificial intelligence (AI) and stated that Henry Schein is striving to provide this integration in order to support and guide dentists.
Bergman said, “Complexity is currently limiting adoption. Dentists are inundated with ideas, but how do they get their arms around it? We at Henry Schein are saying to dentists: ‘Let us help you with this complexity so that you can harness the future of dental technology in your office.’ ”
AI is becoming one of the most important topics in the industry, Albertini stated. In the context of the importance of gaining efficiency in the dental practice, he said: “AI is going to help with this, and because it works well with data, we believe that there is no limit to what it will be able to do. The technology will continue to improve, but we need to make it easy to use.”
