TOKYO, Japan: Japanese chemists developed the first dental cement in 1921, and the milestone led to the founding of what is now one of the biggest international providers of oral healthcare materials. More than a century later, GC Corp. is inviting dental professionals to attend its fifth International Dental Symposium and thereby become part of the culmination of the company’s centenary celebrations. The symposium is a hybrid event that will take place at the Tokyo International Forum on 16–17 April and be livestreamed for participants around the world.
The theme of the event is “Smile for the World—Beyond the Century”, and organisers GC have crafted a programme that aims to provide information that is designed to improve oral health in the global population. To that end, over 100 lectures by expert speakers from around the world will provide advanced insights into the most current topics related to dental practice and academic research in the field of dentistry.
Attendees can participate on-site in Tokyo or via the symposium’s virtual interface, and a number of registration options are available. The latest GC products will be on-site for first-hand testing, and all participants will have the chance to earn CE credits during the event’s 28 educational sessions.
The symposium will kick off on Saturday, 16 April, at 12:25 JST (UTC+9) with an opening ceremony and a series of live lectures from speakers in Tokyo. This first session will be moderated by Dr Hiroshi Egusa, professor and chair of the Division of Molecular and Regenerative Prosthodontics at Tohoku University Graduate School of Dentistry and vice-director of Tohoku University Hospital, and will include presentations on innovative new biomaterials for bone regeneration and milestones in the development of dental adhesive technology. Prof. Marco Ferrari, dean of the School of Dental Medicine and chair of the Department of Prosthodontics and Dental Materials at the University of Siena in Italy, will speak about a future vision for digital dentistry, and fellow experts will discuss concerns relating to alternatives to direct restorative materials and to artificial intelligence in oral healthcare.
Subsequent sessions will focus on a broad variety of topics, including biocompatible and minimally invasive aesthetic dentistry, the application of the latest dental research to adhesive dental treatment and dental care that is oriented towards improving oral function in ageing patients.
GC has been celebrating its centenary since February last year, when it announced its commitment to improving the systemic health of populations and becoming the leading international dental materials manufacturer by 2031. At the time, GC President Dr Kiyotaka Nakao explained: “While achieving a sustainable growth, GC strives to bring values in dental care to realise a healthy long-living society.”
