BOSTON, U.S.: Finding the time to get to the dentist can be problematic for many people; however, with employee wellness becoming more of a trend, this may be a thing of the past. In New York City (NYC), a start-up is joining the movement and bringing dentistry to the workplace. Offering services such as teeth whitening, cleaning and even X-rays, Floss Bar wants to revolutionize the way dental care is performed.

As reported in Inc., Floss Bar Founder Eva Sadej says, "Your smile is a key way to build trust. Imagine if you had a meeting and didn't smile once. That business deal would not go through."

With a range of treatments available, the savings for potential patients can be significant. According to the Floss Bar website, a routine teeth cleaning costs US$95, while in NYC the average price at a dental practice is US$200. The professional in-office teeth whitening costs US$255, with an average cost of US$450 at a dental practice.

"Our mission is access for everyone. If you want to provide access, you have to respect people's schedules. You have to move efficiently," explains Sadej in the Inc. article.

However, teeth cleaning and whitening are not all that is on offer. Floss Bar also provides virtual dental assessments—where a dentist will virtually examine a patient’s teeth—as well as an in-person exam, both of which are priced at US$65. Other services include a clear braces consultation, a US$915 deep cleaning treatment package targetted specifically at people with gum disease, as well as a number of other dental hygiene treatments.

In a statement given to Dental Tribune International, the American Dental Association (ADA) said it does not recommend any particular model of dental practice over another. The statement went on to outline that the ADA values competent and timely delivery of dental care within the bounds of clinical circumstances presented by the patient, with due consideration being given to the needs, desires and values of said patient.
