NEW YORK, U.S.: For several years, Prof. Paul Tipton has been a pioneer in evaluating modern superstructure materials. In an upcoming free Dental Tribune Study Club webinar on Wednesday, March 6, Tipton will be speaking about PEEK high-performance polymers, such as used in JUVORA Dental Discs, which are made from PEEK-OPTIMA. These can be used as a superstructure for functional and esthetic permanent full-arch prostheses with the added benefit of providing built-in shock absorption.
To help show the functionality of the material in the webinar, Tipton will be discussing two separate cases: a 71-year-old with existing maxillary and mandibular dentures requesting fixed bridgework and implants; and a 55-year-old patient presenting with poor dentition and lack of posterior stability, leading to an aged look. In both cases, Tipton will describe his approach to the clinical stages involved in the making of PEEK frameworks using JUVORA Dental Discs. Additionally, he will explore how PEEK can help to mitigate the extreme forces in the mouth (which are particularly prevalent in patients with parafunction) and can provide enhanced patient comfort.
A highly respected specialist in prosthodontics, Tipton has published over 100 scientific articles in the dental press and is an expert lecturer in his field with Tipton Training academies in Manchester, London and Dubai. After gaining his master’s degree in conservative dentistry in 1989, he went on to be awarded the Diploma in General Dental Practice by the Royal College of Surgeons four years later and received specialist status in prosthodontics in 1999 from the General Dental Council. He is currently Professor of Cosmetic Dentistry at the City of London Dental School and BPP University, and President of the British Academy of Restorative Dentistry. Tipton is one of the U.K.’s most successful dentists, with specialist clinics in Manchester and London. He regularly appears in Dentistry Top 50, a poll to select the major influencers of U.K. dentistry.
The 1-hour webinar, titled “Are you sitting comfortably? PEEK: The comfortable alternative for full arch dental implant prosthetics,” will be broadcast live on Wednesday, March 6, at 5:30 p.m. EST. Attendance is free of charge after easy registration on the website. Participants will be able to ask questions via a chat window and have the opportunity to earn a continuing education credit by completing a multiple-choice questionnaire on the topic.
