GENEVA, Switzerland: Last week, GC International held the Symposium on Innovation in Biomaterials for Periodontal Regeneration as part of the CED/NOF-IADR 2024 Oral Health Research Congress in Geneva in Switzerland. The event brought together leading experts in the field to share the latest research and advancements in periodontal regeneration.
The session was chaired by Prof. Anton Sculean, a distinguished leader in periodontal research at the University of Bern in Switzerland. In his opening lecture, titled “Preclinical evaluation of a new synthetic carbonate apatite bone substitute on periodontal regeneration in intrabony defects,” Prof. Sculean provided an in-depth exploration of innovative bone graft materials designed to enhance periodontal regeneration. His presentation highlighted the potential of carbonate apatite in improving clinical outcomes for patients.
Moreover, Prof. Patrick Schmidlin from the University of Zurich demonstrated the benefits of a bilayer membrane composed of poly(lactic acid/caprolactone), which has shown promise in promoting effective periodontal tissue regeneration. Dr Shunsuke Fukuba from Tokyo Medical and Dental University concluded the session, providing valuable clinical insights into the practical applications and performance of these advanced biomaterials in clinical practice.
The depth of the research and the practical implications of the studies captured the attention of more than 50 attendees from across Europe, who were highly engaged with the speakers throughout the event. Significant advancements in biomaterials for periodontal regeneration were showcased, sparking discussions among professionals dedicated to improving periodontal health and creating a unique opportunity for the exchange of knowledge and ideas.
