Align Technology kick-started digital innovation in dentistry back in 1997 when it created a digital solution to an old analogue problem—moving teeth. At IDS, the company is showcasing the most recent and innovative solutions from the Align Digital Platform. We spoke with Markus Sebastian, the company’s senior vice president and managing director for the EMEA region, to find out more.

Markus, how are digital advancements helping both patients and dentists?
Digital technology, such as remote care digital tools or intraoral scanners, plays an increasingly important role in both orthodontic and restorative dentistry and can allow doctors to provide continuity of patient care despite changing circumstances. Digital tools allow the dentist to monitor treatment progress, and in many cases to continue with the treatment. We accelerated the launch of some solutions, including Invisalign Virtual Care and Invisalign Virtual Appointment, in order to support dentists during the pandemic.

What can you tell us about the new iTero Workflow 2.0 software?
The iTero Workflow 2.0 software was developed to simplify and streamline dentists’ daily routines and increase practice efficiency. They offer a faster, all-in-one scan with enhanced visualization capabilities, which improves patient communication and increases the ability to capture, annotate and share Invisalign simulations or restorative treatment plans. These new features help dentists to provide better clinical diagnosis and can help patients better understand their oral health and treatment options.

How can digital end-to-end workflows streamline increase practice efficiency?
Clear aligner treatment is a good example of this. An intra-oral scan can be done in a matter of minutes and can be used to create a digital treatment plan via ClinCheck software. This software can be accessed from a tablet, mobile phone or computer, which makes the review and approval process faster and more convenient. Dentists can also monitor treatment remotely, which can save a lot of time and enable them to see and treat more patients.

What can be expected from a visit to Align Technology’s booth at IDS?
Our objective is to inspire Invisalign doctors to leverage all the digital tools available to them, and to help them transition to digital workflows. With exocad CAD/CAM software, we are expanding possibilities still further, helping dental professionals bring the precision, efficiency, and collaboration of digital production to restorative dentistry. We are very much looking forward to bringing this experience to IDS attendees Cologne and we look forward to welcoming them at booth A030―C031 in hall 3.2.
