COLOGNE, Germany: In less than four months, the 37th edition of the International Dental Show (IDS) will be opening its doors in Cologne. Held from 21 to 25 March next year, it is expected to be another outstanding showcase event for worldwide innovation and excellence in dentistry, according to the organisers Koelnmesse as well as the Association of the German Dental Manufacturers, who spoke to the dental press on 6 December.

Up until December, over 2,000 companies and dealers from around the globe have registered for the 2017 edition of IDS; a number that Koelnmesse’s COO Katharina C. Hamma said is expected to increase by another 20 per cent until the show finally opens in March. To accommodate the additional exhibitors, a part of a new hall will be added to the existing five halls that hosted the previous three exhibitions. This will increase the exhibition space to a new record size of 16,000 m2, she said.

The last IDS in 2015 saw the participation of 2,199 exhibitors, of which almost two thirds came from outside Germany. Particularly strong growth was also reported in the number of visitors from overseas, in particular ones from Asia, North America, Brazil and the Middle East.

“This level of internationality and quality on the supply and demand side is what makes IDS the most important global dental trade fair brand,” Hamma explained.

Chairman of the Executive Board at the Association of the German Dental Manufacturers, Dr Martin Rickert added: “IDS 2015 was once again an impressive milestone in a very long success story. With the 37th IDS next year, we want to continue the successful series of the previous International Dental Shows.”

Rickert said that the event would once again cover the entire spectrum of dental products and services, with special emphasis on digital technologies and their impact on different fields in dentistry, such as implantology and, increasingly, orthodontics. Advancements in dental materials and their extended possibilities in terms of their functions and aesthetics will also be on display. In addition to the large-scale exhibition, IDS will be offering an extensive supporting programme that includes the Speakers Corner, a platform where manufacturers will once again have the opportunity to give product presentations and engage with the visitors.

The IDS Career Day, which was a first in 2015, as well as the highly requested and limited “Know-How tours” will also return. The first trade show day will be reserved for the industry for business-to-business discussions, as per usual.

Until the show starts, those who are interested to find out more can access detailed information and a number of communication tools on the event’s website, www.ids-cologne.de. There is also an app available for smart devices that can be downloaded for free.
