MELBOURNE, Australia: For the first time in the Osteology Foundation’s history, Melbourne will play host to one of the three Asia-Pacific symposiums. Themed “Strategies for predictable regeneration—Today and tomorrow”, the scientific programme will delve intensively into the current status of knowledge and research in oral tissue regeneration, discussing new trends and techniques in the field.

The two-day event will feature a number of international and national keynote speakers, as well as four hands-on workshops, which have already sold out. Linking science and practice, the prominent experts will approach their respective topics on the basis of evidence from research, study data and master clinicians’ experience. Among others, Dr Christoph Hämmerle, from Switzerland, will be holding a workshop on bone defects at implant sites. Dr Chris Evans, from Australia, is to speak on ways to improve aesthetic outcomes from a prosthodontic perspective. As part of a master clinician session, Dr Ki-Tae Koo, from South Korea, will be giving a presentation on extraction socket management and classification and treatment concepts for infected alveoli.

In addition to the lectures and workshops, the Osteology Foundation and the chairpersons of the first Osteology Australasia Symposium invited investigators in the field of regenerative dentistry and dental tissue engineering to submit abstracts of original work for consideration in the Osteology Poster Presentation and Osteology Research Forum. On the final day of the symposium, the three best Osteology Research Forum presentations will be awarded the Osteology Foundation Research Prize, worth A$2,000 (US$1,500),  A$1,500 (US$1,100) and A$1,000 (US$750) for first, second and third place, respectively.

Being held on 2 and 3 June at the Arthur Streeton Auditorium in Melbourne, it is one of four symposiums to take place over the next 12 months. Other host countries are Japan, China and Russia. In addition to such national events, the non-profit organisation holds its international symposium in the Cote d’Azur in Monaco every three years. More information can be found at www.osteology.org.
