NEW YORK: Tom Loughran has been named the new general manager of the Greater New York Dental Meeting (GNYDM). In the role, Loughran, who has extensive and broad experience as a trade show executive, will lead the major annual US dental convention into a new phase of growth.
Loughran succeeds Executive Director Dr Robert R. Edwab and his appointment is the result of an extensive selection process undertaken by the executive boards of the Second District Dental Society and New York County Dental Society—the bodies that organise and govern the GNYDM.
Loughran began his career in 1999 as a sales executive at Reed Exhibitions, where he was promoted to sales manager in 2004 and to sales director in 2006. Since 2007, Loughran has worked as vice president of major international trade fairs, such as Vision Expo East, Global Gaming Expo and Global Gaming Expo Asia (G2E Asia). Loughran previously served as a captain in the United States Marine Corps and is a veteran of several conflicts and international humanitarian efforts.
“We are thrilled to have Tom as our new general manager,” Dr Richard L. Oshrain, general chair of GNYDM, commented in a press release. “He is a proven leader with the vision to expand on the success that the GNYDM has built over the past 98 years and takes us into our next phase of growth and innovation,” Dr Oshrain added.
The GNYDM is the largest dental congress in the US and aims to foster lifelong learning by providing dental professionals with outstanding educational opportunities and industry support. In 2022, the event recorded over 33,000 registrations and attracted 12,188 dentists from 162 countries.
