ROME, Italy: The 2023 Oral Reconstruction (OR) Global Symposium, themed “Quo Vadis Implant Dentistry?”, will be held from 18 to 20 May at the Auditorium Parco della Musica in Rome, the centre of one of the greatest civilisations. The global city boasts numerous sites of interest and its historic centre is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. More than 30 world-renowned speakers will address the future of implant dentistry and dental tissue regeneration. Numerous practical details about proven and new clinical therapeutic approaches will be discussed during the event.

With the OR Global Symposium in Rome, the OR Foundation is building a bridge to traditional international congresses. OR Foundation President Dr Luca Cordaro, who was elected last year, is congress chair. Together with the scientific committee, Dr Juan Blanco (Spain), Prof. Dehua Li (China), Dr Michael Stimmelmayr (Germany), Prof. Irena Sailer (Switzerland), Prof. Anton Sculean (Switzerland) and Dr Homa Zadeh (US), more than 30 world-renowned speakers have been recruited to share their knowledge and experience in a practical way. They will present a differentiated and groundbreaking programme aimed at dental professionals from all areas of oral reconstruction.

The OR Foundation’s mission is to drive progress for the benefit of patients through cutting-edge education, research and the world’s most exclusive network of specialists in oral reconstruction. “Our goal is to enable the continuous improvement of treatment through close collaboration with universities, dentists and industry, via the sharing of expertise and presentation of research results, especially at our symposia,” said Dr Martin Schuler, executive director of the OR Foundation.

The programme will start on the morning of Thursday, 18 May, with five practical and two theoretical workshops. Participants will learn a variety of techniques that can be incorporated into their daily practice. The afternoon will be dedicated to the pre-symposium programme, titled “Technological innovation helps the clinic”. The pre-symposium programme, which boasts renowned speakers too, is included in the symposium participation fee.

The main programme on Friday and Saturday is divided into eight sessions. One session will discuss different options for hard- and soft-tissue augmentation, including guided bone regeneration with blocks or shells and computer-assisted bone augmentation. The speakers will examine topics related to the ability to affect bone and soft-tissue healing around implants and review options in the treatment of gingival recession. Another focus will be on the use of autologous bone grafts and allogeneic, xenogeneic and synthetic bone substitute materials, membranes and soft-tissue matrices. The right time for implant placement and the advantages of digitisation will be discussed, as well as prosthetic solutions for older and edentulous patients.

Research award and poster exhibition

Young researchers whose studies are supported by the OR Foundation will present their latest findings in a dedicated session on the main podium on the morning of Saturday, 20 May. The best researcher will be awarded the OR Foundation Research Award.

The best abstracts in the poster exhibition will be presented on the Friday afternoon on the main stage during a science slam.

Participants from all over the world expected

Participants from all over the world are expected to attend the OR Global Symposium. The congress language will be English, and the lectures will be simultaneously interpreted into French, German, Italian, Japanese and Spanish.

The symposium is supported by BioHorizons and Camlog, founding sponsors of the OR Foundation. The full programme and early bird tickets can be obtained at symposium2023.orfoundation.org.
