A common challenge faced by the dental professional is that of seeing confusion in a patient’s eyes when oral hygiene issues or the need for treatment is explained. Often, simply talking to patients—whether adults or young people—is not enough. This is where the power of “seeing is believing” becomes critical.
Patients need to see their dental issues in order to understand their oral health situation and why the proposed treatment is necessary. Visualising dental issues allows patients to fully comprehend this. Diagnostic tools that enable patients to see what is happening inside their mouths can turn confusion and uncertainty into clarity and significantly improve treatment acceptance—without adding to the dental practitioner’s workload.
The next instalment of the Digital Excellence Series, titled “Connect, communicate and co-discover!”, will delve into how diagnostic and visualisation tools are reshaping patient engagement and optimising practice performance. Scheduled for 30 October, from 8:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. CET, the event will feature speakers who are early adopters of digital technologies in dentistry. Drawing from their extensive clinical experience, they will highlight key insights through real-world case studies.
Drs Michaela Sehnert and Ingo Baresel will provide insight into several readily available diagnostic and visualisation tools integrated within intra-oral scanners. Supported by their practice teams, dental professionals can use these tools to enhance patient understanding and acceptance, as well as elevate routine appointments, fostering better awareness of oral health and encouraging collaborative patient engagement.
The experts will also explore how contemporary diagnostic tools can uncover previously unnoticed or ignored oral health issues. They will demonstrate how such tools can engage new patients and re-establish connections with existing ones, all while building trust and confidence. This visually guided co-discovery approach empowers patients by educating them on their treatment needs, fostering a deeper understanding and promoting acceptance—whether for routine restorative treatments, implant cases or combined orthodontic and restorative solutions.
All Digital Excellence Series events are held in English. Entry is complimentary. However, registration is necessary to gain admittance. For those interested in furthering their knowledge, recordings of previous events in the series are available, offering additional perspectives on the future of digital dentistry.
