NEW YORK, U.S.: According to webinar host Dr. Gilberto Debelian, mechanical debridement of the root canal by endodontic files is important to gain access to the complex root canal network. In a free Dental Tribune Study Club webinar on Wednesday, Oct. 16, Debelian will give an overview of the different types of endodontic irrigants and a demonstration of a clinical protocol to be used in vital and nonvital cases.

In the webinar, Debelian will present an overview of irrigating solutions in endodontics, their actions and interactions, as well as the instruments and devices used to facilitate the chemical action of these solutions. He will perform a live treatment, and webinar participants will have the opportunity to see exactly what is happening through his operating microscope.

Debelian specialized in endodontics, completing his studies at the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, U.S., in 1991. He received the Louis I. Grossman student award in endodontics before going on to teach as a clinical instructor and associate professor in the endodontic program at the University of Oslo, Norway, until 2010. Currently adjunct visiting professor in the postgraduate program in endodontics at the University of Pennsylvania, he also runs a private practice limited to endodontics as well as an advanced endodontic microscopy center, Endo Inn, in Norway. Debelian has authored six chapters in books on endodontics, one book on endodontics, and more than 80 scientific and clinical papers. He has also received scientific awards from the European Society of Endodontology and from the Norwegian Dental Association.

The 1-hour webinar, titled “Root canal irrigants and disinfectants—efficient clinical protocol used on vital and non-vital cases,” will be broadcast live on Wednesday, Oct. 16, at 12 p.m. EST. Attendance is free of charge after easy registration on the website. Participants will be able to ask questions via a chat window and have the opportunity to earn a continuing education credit by completing a multiple-choice questionnaire on the topic.
