European Parliament adopts new medical device regulations

BRUSSELS, Belgium: The European Parliament has voted to implement two new regulations concerning medical devices with the aim of improving safety in medicine and dentistry. The regulations were proposed in 2012 by the European Commission and experienced several delays before being officially endorsed earlier this month. They will be applied after a transitional period of three years from publication for medical devices and five years for in vitro diagnostic medical devices. Publication is expected to take place shortly in the Official Journal of the European Union.

ADX Sydney has new manager

SYDNEY, Australia: In a move that is set to benefit Australia’s various dental events, Linda Gaunt, former CEO of Meetings & Events Australia, has been appointed as the Exhibitions Strategy Manager of the Australian Dental Industry Association (ADIA). Gaunt will first be tasked with making the upcoming ADX18 Sydney, Australia’s largest dental exhibition, an event that captures the interest of the entire dental community.

Hong Kong: Access to dental subsidy scheme to be widened

HONG KONG: The age limit for the Community Care Fund scheme, which subsidises dental care for Hong Kong’s elderly population, among other assistance programmes, is set to be lowered from 75 to 70 years, fund task force chairman Dr Law Chi-kwong has announced. Austrian dentist refuses to treat Erdoğan supporters

Study challenges understanding of oral health in the Stone Age

Carestream Dental to be established as independent company

New research explores effect of strawberries in oral cancer therapy

The recently presented initial results revealed some intriguing differences between smokers and nonsmokers.
