LUCERNE, Switzerland: Dr William V. Giannobile, who has served since 2007 on the Osteology Foundation Board, will become President of the Osteology Foundation in June 2019 for the next two years.
He is currently the Najjar Endowed Professor and Chair of the Department of Periodontics and Oral Medicine at the University of Michigan School of Dentistry in the US. He is also Professor of Biomedical Engineering at the College of Engineering and serves as Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Dental Research, the official journal of the International Association for Dental Research.
When asked about his thoughts on the election, Giannobile said: “I feel very privileged and honoured by the board in recommending me to serve as president to lead the Osteology Foundation for the next two years. I will be doing my best to follow our outstanding presidents Professors Christoph Hämmerle and Mariano Sanz, who have been excellent role models in setting a strong direction for the Osteology Foundation.” The focus of his tenure will be to implement the strategic plan that the Osteology Foundation Board has recently defined: “A key aspect is to expand our global presence in reaching out to our global partners especially in Asia, South America, Africa and the Middle East regions. We will also work to develop our well-established presence in Europe and North America. We will build on our progressive programmes in research, such as the Osteology Research Academy courses, and on our education programmes, such as our national and international symposia.”
