BASEL, Switzerland: The Oral Reconstruction (OR) Foundation has recently announced its new chairman, as well as a new member of the board of directors and a new member of the scientific board. The new members will continue to pursue the OR Foundation’s goal to secure progress in implantology by creating and imparting new scientific knowledge for the benefit of the patient.

The new OR Foundation Chairman is Prof. Robert Sader, Director and Chair of Oral, Cranio-Maxillofacial and Facial Plastic Surgery at Goethe-University Frankfurt in Germany, dean of clinical student affairs and medical director of the university’s Carolinum dental institute.

When asked about his personal goals for the OR Foundation, Sader responded: “The combination of education and research is a key factor for me. Up to now, the OR Foundation has mainly organised symposia, congresses and courses. In the future, additional possibilities arise through research-based scholarships that combine education and small research projects. And most important, regarding optimal treatment concepts for our patients, implant dentistry is embedded and must be linked with almost every other dental treatment procedure. Therefore, the goal must be to evolve implant dentistry as a bridging technology in all its facets and to develop a holistic approach for dental education and research coming from implant dentistry and being realised under the umbrella of the OR Foundation.”

A further goal of Sader is expansion in other markets: “The OR Foundation focuses its activities mainly on Europe and the US. However, personally, I am very often in Asia, especially in China and Japan, and I am very impressed about the progress there. It is very exciting to track the advancements in Asia and I am looking forward to seeing how the OR Foundation will be successful in enriching the expanding world of Asian implant dentistry.”

Additionally, Oscar Battegay, partner at Battegay Dürr, attorney-at-law and civil law notary in Basel in Switzerland, joins the board of directors. Prof. Irena Sailer, head of the Division of Fixed Prosthodontics and Biomaterials at the University of Geneva, completes the scientific board.

The new board will discuss progressive ideas regarding the creation and dissemination of knowledge by funding research projects and advanced education, as well as sponsoring young scientific talents. “Apart from the existing global symposia—the next will take place in New York from 30 April to 2 May 2020—we are increasingly focusing on international and national events,” stated Dr Alex Schär, CEO of the OR Foundation and member of the board of directors. “In the future, we are planning to establish study clubs which support dentists on a local level, but still ensure the high OR Foundation standards. Joint events with cooperation partners, as well as building our own curriculum in conjunction with universities, is also being discussed.”

Sader and Sailer will support the foundation with ideas regarding education and scientific aspects, whereas Battegay will provide his knowledge as a specialist in national and international corporate law, in addition to giving legal and strategic support.

“We firmly believe that the best way to serve patients’ needs and ensure ongoing therapeutic improvement is for universities, dental practitioners and industry to work closely together and share their expertise and research findings,” explained Sader. “Therefore, in order to guarantee advancement, we have funded numerous scientific projects, promoted continuous training and education, and created an international platform on which scientists, practitioners and industry can exchange knowledge and ideas. These ideas evolve into better education, research and new projects, which foster the progress of implant dentistry.”
