While methods of grafting often utilise materials obtained from artificial sources or the patient’s body, other natural sources can also be used. ADDE considers the agreement on the EU medical device regulation a good compromise. With the new rules, the European level of safety in medicine and dentistry will be raised to a higher standard. However, the regulation could jeopardise existing relationships between producers and distributors, if manufacturers are not able to meet the required quality and safety standards. Dental dealers would then be forced to work with other producers, which could have an impact on pricing and products.

For this issue, we spoke with Ueli Breitschmid, in the dental industry since 1966. Known for being candid and forthright, the CEO and owner of Curaden and president of the Swiss dental association (Arbeitgeberverband der Schweizer Dentalbranche ASD) spoke about the changes in the Swiss dental supply business, the importance of regional trade fairs for dealers, as well as significant trends and developments in the industry. He continues to advise that dentists should think in terms of prevention.

A warm welcome to the second Association of Dental Dealers in Europe (ADDE) newsletter exclusively for our members and affiliates. A great deal has happened since the ADDE met in Prague in the Czech Republic this April. While we enjoyed an excellent meeting with new insights and informative presentations, we could not have imagined that we would soon be discussing the departure of the UK from the European Union. Besides the news of the Brexit, the EU has announced a compromise on the new medical device regulation. Finally, the 2016 ADDE market survey has been released.

PARGAS, Finland: In order to offer clinicians the convenience of minimised maintenance of dental instruments, Finnish instrument manufacturer LM-Dental has launched Sharp Diamond sharpen-free hand instruments. The micro-coated periodontal instruments were first introduced at the International Symposium on Dental Hygiene in Basel in Switzerland in June 2016.

COLOGNE, Germany: Organiser of the International Dental Show (IDS) Koelnmesse has announced high registration figures for exhibitors after the official application deadline. By the end of March, over 1,400 companies from 50 countries had already confirmed their participation. Koelnmesse expects that the upcoming IDS, for which the entire dental world will be convening from 21 to 25 March 2017, will again achieve a new record participation.
