HANOI, Vietnam: The National Hospital of Odonto-Stomatology (NHOS) in Hanoi is a specialised hospital with leading experts in the field of maxillofacial surgery, emergency treatment and rehabilitation on its staff. It caters for both local and international patients. After NHOS surgeons successfully removed a patient’s large facial tumour, Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh sent a letter of encouragement to the hospital’s staff, praising their efforts in carrying out such specialised and difficult work.

The elderly patient was reportedly in poor health and suffered from an undiagnosed serious illness as well as high blood pressure. In addition, the tumour’s location and sheer size complicated the surgical approach.
“This was not the first time we have received a patient with such a huge tumour on the face, but this is a very special case,” said Dr Tran Cao Binh, director of NHOS. “The patient is in very unfortunate circumstances, which made us really determined to help her.”
“I am very happy and proud to hear that NHOS has successfully removed a large tumour from the patient’s face after more than five hours in surgery,” the prime minister wrote. He added that the operation’s success “shows the professional qualifications and skills” of the medical team as well as their “sense of responsibility” for the care of the patient.
