BARCELONA, Spain: As part of the 2026 EFP Postgraduate Symposium, held from 3 to 5 September, oral health company Dentaid welcomed participants to the Dentaid Research Center. The symposium took place in Barcelona and brought together more than 200 postgraduate students, teachers and programme directors from programmes accredited by the European Federation of Periodontology (EFP) for scientific exchange, clinical and research presentations and networking.
Held every two years, the symposium is intended for second- and third-year students, directors and coordinators from EFP-accredited postgraduate programmes in periodontology. Dentaid was the exclusive sponsor of this year’s edition.
Manel Vera, CEO of Dentaid, welcomed attendees and highlighted the company’s commitment to research, education and collaboration. “Progress in oral health requires the integration of research, clinical expertise and innovation. At Dentaid, we strive to bring these areas together and work alongside the international scientific community to develop solutions that improve people’s quality of life. We are proud to open our doors and share our approach to innovation,” Vera said.
As part of the event, participants visited the Dentaid Research Center near Barcelona, a private centre specialising in oral health research. During the tour, they gained first-hand insight into the company’s main research areas and the work of its multidisciplinary teams in microbiology, pharmaceutics and engineering, as well as their work to generate scientific and medical evidence. The visit highlighted how Dentaid applies scientific knowledge to the development of oral healthcare solutions and evidence-based dentistry.
Participants visited the Dentaid Research Center in Cerdanyola del Vallès, near Barcelona, to learn about the company’s oral health research and development activities.
Joan Gispert, head of research, development and innovation at the Dentaid Research Center, said that these meetings provide an opportunity to share knowledge, exchange ideas and work towards a common goal. “The connection between academia, clinical practice and industry is essential to building a future in which we can better understand the mechanisms that influence disease progression with ageing, as well as the relationship between oral health and overall health. Only through collaboration among all stakeholders will we be able to promote oral health throughout life,” Gispert explained.
During the visit, Dentaid brought together a group of international experts to discuss key areas of oral health research. The session covered the prevention of peri-implant diseases, biofilm control, recommendations for daily implant care and current scientific evidence on peri-implant maintenance therapy.
Prof. Nikolaos Donos, chair of the EFP Education Committee and editor-in-chief of the Journal of Clinical Periodontology, emphasised: “Perhaps the greatest challenge is ensuring that the success achieved at the time of implant placement is maintained over the long term. Achieving this requires solutions that facilitate effective hygiene, ongoing supportive therapy and the structured use of tools to assess and manage risk factors, always supported by well-trained dental teams capable of putting these principles into practice in their daily clinical work.”
The meeting provided a forum for dialogue between research, clinical practice and education and gave postgraduate students insight into how scientific knowledge and innovation can be translated into patient care. Dentaid’s sponsorship of the symposium forms part of its activities in research, education and collaboration with the international scientific community, including work related to the prevention of periodontal and peri-implant diseases and the promotion of oral health.
