SOZOPOL, Bulgaria: The key to a successful meeting is to combine work and pleasure, as Dental Tribune International (DTI) network members experienced recently. Hosted by the team of Dental Tribune Bulgaria, the meeting convened colleagues from countries all over the world at Burgas Bay in Sozopol. The event, which is organised annually, informs the 31 international publishers about the latest corporate developments and business projects.

Addressing changes in the world, including politics, the economy and thus the dental industry, participants of the meeting discussed existing and planned business models and the future of DTI and its partners. “DTI has never been as stable and profitable as it is today. However, the only constant in life is change,” said the company’s president and CEO, Torsten Oemus, at the meeting. With over 25 years of experience in the global dental business, Oemus has his finger on the pulse, allowing his prompt response to market changes. With the current market developments in mind, the CEO now wants to focus particularly on content.

With a large variety of print publications and the new DTI website, which was relaunched in January to combine the complete corporate portfolio, including news and business publishing, education, marketplace and company profiles, DTI has established the foundation for its goal to provide and continue to expand the most comprehensive platform for dental content worldwide. “Our diverse and international product portfolio currently reaches over 650,000 dentists in 25 languages,” said Claudia Salwiczek-Majonek, Director of Content Creation. “With our global team of editors and journalists, our aim is to provide unique and high-quality content.” DTI is perfectly positioned to not only research at the office but also attend and report from dental events, fairs and congresses all over the world.

Just how successfully a business plan can be accomplished was demonstrated in a presentation by DT Bulgaria’s Managing Director Ulyana Vincheva. “Ulyana is a very good example of how a business can thrive in a challenging market. We can see how much she has achieved in the past 11 years within the DTI network,” said Oemus. Vincheva and her team run DT Bulgaria as their main project within her local Tribune Media business based in Sofia. Besides the monthly publication of a Dental Tribune Bulgaria print edition and daily online publishing, she has specialised in dental education and event planning. The company’s annual Smile of the Year Award, a contest that celebrates the achievements of Bulgarian dentists and their teams by awarding the best of them in seven different categories, is referred to as “The Dental Oscars” by the country’s dental community.

In addition to hearing about Vincheva’s success story, the network had the opportunity to learn more about a partner, who joined the network just recently. Yuji Hirakawa, President of Tokyo-based company Medical Net, introduced the audience to his local project. Having released the first Dental Tribune Japan print issue in October 2017, Hirakawa and his team currently provide content and education to over 30,000 dental professionals in Japan.

Developed for patients, however, is a new print publication Oemus announced in Bulgaria. The Smyle magazine will not only contain the latest information regarding dentistry, but also focus on topics such as a healthy lifestyle, food, travel, wellness and well-being—“the good things in life”, according to Oemus. The first issue will be released in September in all German-speaking markets and will be combined with the consumer platform Smyle Media, which offers a large number of services to patients and dentists, including education, videos and expert-led forums.

Meeting participants were then updated on DTI's event services in a presentation by Antje Kahnt, Account and Product Manager for Events, covering the latest events it is organising, such as the ROOTS SUMMIT to be held in Berlin in Germany from 28 June to 1 July.

Bulgarian IT specialists MediCloud informed the publishers’ network on current developments regarding PracticeDent. This cloud-based online dental practice management software has already been launched successfully in several markets and is now being introduced to the Brazilian dental market, with over 200,000 dentists, one of the largest markets worldwide.

With network partners having travelled to Bulgaria from China, the Czech Republic, Germany, Greece, Iran, Italy, Japan, the Netherlands, Romania, South Africa, the UAE and the US, the event was once again well attended and successful in its goals.

“I am glad we spent one great weekend together, having the sea as our backdrop, sharing and exchanging—both in formal and informal settings—good practices and failures, ideas and dreams about the future, planning future collaborations,” stated Vincheva after the event. “I believe that everyone went back to their countries with a new idea to try in their own markets. I think that, during the past three days, everybody experienced the good atmosphere among the whole DTI family and also how strong we are together. Special thanks to Torsten Oemus for the faith and the opportunity to hold this meeting in my home country, and for his special talent to discover and attract the right people from all over the world.”

Oemus too was satisfied with the outcome of the 14th Annual Publishers’ Meeting and the network relationship: “We have come quite far together. I am totally convinced of this group and our partnership.”

The next Publishers’ Meeting will take place in Cologne in Germany from 9 to 11 March 2019, just prior to the International Dentistry Show.
