COLOGNE, Germany: Over five days, this year’s International Dental Show (IDS), which concluded on 29 March, welcomed more than 135,000 visitors from 156 countries to its Cologne expo centre—an increase of more than 15% in visitor numbers compared with the previous edition. The event was marked by substantial growth and a high level of international participation. Global companies making up 77% of the exhibition, the 41st IDS reaffirmed the event’s status as the world’s leading platform for the dental community. Overall, 2,010 companies from 61 countries showcased the latest developments in dentistry across 180,000 m2 of exhibition space—covering everything, including digital workflows and new materials.
“IDS has once again exceeded our expectations, and we are very pleased,” said Mark Stephen Pace, chairman of the Association of the German Dental Industry. “Overall, we have seen that the German dental industry is very well positioned on the international stage—at the forefront of innovation. This has also been reflected in the high level of interest in the innovative products and system solutions. IDS is the North Star for the global dental industry,” he concluded.
Oliver Frese, chief operating officer of IDS organiser Koelnmesse, also gave a very positive assessment: “IDS 2025 was a complete success in every respect. It showed that Cologne is not only the home of the dental industry but also a place where the future is shaped. As the leading global trade fair, IDS is both a showcase and a driver of sustainable progress, high-quality care and global partnerships.”
In addition to its focus on technological advancements, the event emphasised professional dialogue and collaboration. “At a time when technological progress and digital solutions are advancing rapidly, it is more important than ever for us as a dental community to work together,” said Prof. Christoph Benz, president of the German Dental Association. “IDS offers us the opportunity to exchange best practices so that our patients will continue to have access to local dental care with minimal barriers in the future.”
Dominik Kruchen, president of the Verband Deutscher Zahntechniker-Innungen (association of German dental technicians’ guilds), also highlighted the significance of the event: “IDS continues to be a leading trade fair for many dental laboratories. Here, labs closely examine new technologies, materials and workflows in search of game-changers in prosthetic treatment. They do so with entrepreneurial foresight and professional expertise. Investment decisions are made thoughtfully with an eye to practical implementation. The many trainees in the exhibition halls are a clear sign that the next generation is already preparing to take on its role in the future of dental prosthetics.”
Impressions from IDS
Feedback from exhibitors
Speaking with OEMUS MEDIA on-site, Tom Tilmans, director of sales and marketing for the Europe, Middle East and Africa region at ClaroNav, summarised the company’s IDS experience: “We are always excited to attend IDS, and it never disappoints. New innovations come not only from formal in-booth interactions but also from informal evening conversations. We will return home enthused, fill our orders, solidify new partnerships and get to work for more major moments in 2027.”
Corus CEO Juan Roma said to Dental Tribune International: “IDS provides us with the ideal platform to showcase our newest innovations. The event also allows us to strengthen industry partnerships and demonstrate to the industry just how our digital ecosystem is transforming workflows. Furthermore, it is a great opportunity for us to engage with dental professionals seeking future-ready, integrated solutions.”
At the show, Dr Per Falk, the new CEO of GC, told Dental Tribune International: “The scale of IDS is astonishing. Even in my 25 years in the pharmaceutical industry, I have never seen an event of this magnitude. […] Generally speaking, we have not seen much innovation across the industry. However, one exciting development is the move toward biomaterials, such as our synthetic bone graft substitutes. These materials offer a promising alternative to animal-derived products and provide consistent quality and scalability. Looking ahead, I expect significant advancements in dental materials and treatment approaches. Hopefully, by the next IDS, we will see a wave of new products that further enhance patient care and treatment outcomes.”
The organisers announced that the next IDS will take place from 16 to 20 March 2027.
