COLOGNE, Germany: In less than four months, the 37th edition of the International Dental Show (IDS) will be opening its doors in Cologne. Held from 21 to 25 March next year, it is expected to be another outstanding showcase event for worldwide innovation and excellence in dentistry, according to the organisers Koelnmesse as well as the Association of the German Dental Manufacturers, who spoke to the dental press on 6 December.

Since 2009, Lutz Müller has been President of the German Federation of Dental Trade (Bundes-Verband-Dentalhandel - BVD). In his role, he is committed to restructuring the BVD and further developing the dental trade business. In addition to giving industry recommendations for sales and logistics, the association focuses on providing comprehensive consultation to its members while supporting young talent. In an interview for the ADDE Newsletter, Lutz Müller explains, among other things, whether a visit to regional fairs is worthwhile and proposes to perhaps only give advice for a fee in the future.

DUBAI, UAE: From Nov. 30 to Dec. 3, over 300 people from over 45 countries gathered at the Crowne Plaza hotel in Dubai for the 2016 ROOTS SUMMIT. For the past 15 years, the meeting has been an open and inclusive global learning forum, accessible to anyone involved in the practice of endodontic therapy. Featuring 20 distinguished speakers and a comprehensive industry exhibition, the 2016 summit was one of the most important events of this year's endodontics calendar.
ROOTS SUMMITs have been held since the late 1990s. Over the past two decades, Stephen Jones and Dr Freddy Belliard have been part of the meeting that regularly attracts endodontists from all over the world. At the 2016 event, which was organized in close collaboration with Dental Tribune International, the publisher sat down with the two endodontic experts as well as scientific chairman Dr. David E. Jaramillo to learn more about the mission of the ROOTS community.

While methods of grafting often utilise materials obtained from artificial sources or the patient’s body, other natural sources can also be used. ADDE considers the agreement on the EU medical device regulation a good compromise. With the new rules, the European level of safety in medicine and dentistry will be raised to a higher standard. However, the regulation could jeopardise existing relationships between producers and distributors, if manufacturers are not able to meet the required quality and safety standards. Dental dealers would then be forced to work with other producers, which could have an impact on pricing and products.

Known for being candid and forthright, the CEO and owner of Curaden and president of the Swiss dental association (Arbeitgeberverband der Schweizer Dentalbranche ASD) spoke about the changes in the Swiss dental supply business, the importance of regional trade fairs for dealers, as well as significant trends and developments in the industry. He continues to advise that dentists should think in terms of prevention.

A warm welcome to the second Association of Dental Dealers in Europe (ADDE) newsletter exclusively for our members and affiliates. A great deal has happened since the ADDE met in Prague in the Czech Republic this April. While we enjoyed an excellent meeting with new insights and informative presentations, we could not have imagined that we would soon be discussing the departure of the UK from the European Union. Besides the news of the Brexit, the EU has announced a compromise on the new medical device regulation. Finally, the 2016 ADDE market survey has been released.

PARGAS, Finland: In order to offer clinicians the convenience of minimised maintenance of dental instruments, Finnish instrument manufacturer LM-Dental has launched Sharp Diamond sharpen-free hand instruments. The micro-coated periodontal instruments were first introduced at the International Symposium on Dental Hygiene in Basel in Switzerland in June 2016.

COLOGNE, Germany: Organiser of the International Dental Show (IDS) Koelnmesse has announced high registration figures for exhibitors after the official application deadline. By the end of March, over 1,400 companies from 50 countries had already confirmed their participation. Koelnmesse expects that the upcoming IDS, for which the entire dental world will be convening from 21 to 25 March 2017, will again achieve a new record participation.

SAN JOSE, USA: As market research company Credence Research has reported, the global stand-alone intra-oral scanners market was valued at US$55.3 million in 2014 and is expected to grow at a 13.9 percent compound annual rate from 2015 to 2022. Owing to the technology’s many advantages, including digital impressions, easy handling, high accuracy and 3-D preview images, intra-oral scanning is becoming increasingly popular in dental practices and laboratories.
