BASEL, Switzerland: Webinars are a brilliant way to keep up to date with the latest developments in dentistry and gain continuing education (CE) credits. Two new webinars are coming up on the Straumann Group’s educational platform. On 11 November, Dr Maya Chmielewska will be looking at the practical implementation of digital workflows, and on 12 November, Dr Ryan Lewis will be focusing on contemporary protocols for digitally planned implant placement. This offers a great way to start the week, and dentists can continue to advance their skills and knowledge through the many more webinars still to come on the Straumann Campus.

According to Chmielewska, it is not necessary to purchase expensive equipment to start exploiting the benefits of digital dentistry. Beginners can employ the multiple surgical planning software programs available on the market and planning centres can be especially helpful. In her webinar, Chmielewska will answer several questions for novices, such as what are the minimum requirements for applying digital workflows and what is needed for fully digital practice? Through the webinar, participants will learn about the manufacturing processes used in combination with the digital workflow, including standard laboratory protocols, milling and 3D printing; as well as about the range of CAD/CAM materials for the practice and the laboratory. They will also learn how to use these materials and implement the digital workflow painlessly, using surgical planning software and guided surgery to provide predictable and beautiful provisional and final results.

In 2016, Chmielewska graduated from the Medical University of Warsaw in Poland. She has headed a number of student scientific research grant projects, published two articles in the Polish edition of the implants magazine and co-authored a teaching atlas for panoramic radiographs. Currently, she practises at a clinic in Gdańsk in Poland.

Lewis believes that digital dentistry is an evolving field which allows for streamlined workflows and clarity in communication between surgical, restorative and laboratory teams. In his webinar, Lewis will discuss new concepts for the contemporary practice that will help differentiate the old from the new. Additionally, he will review the current options and protocols for digital implant planning; look at how digital treatment planning increases efficiency and clinical outcomes; and discuss the benefits of digital communication between the surgeon, restorative dentist and laboratory.

Lewis is pushing the limits of guided surgery by developing fully digital techniques and pathways utilising intra-oral scanning and 3D printing. He is a graduate of Murray State University and of the prestigious University of Louisville School of Dentistry, both in Kentucky in the US. He is one of the first to graduate from the University of Louisville’s reinvigorated three-year prosthodontics residency programme, celebrated for producing some of the finest specialists in the US.

Chmielewska’s 1-hour webinar, titled “Practical implementation of the digital workflow from the clinical development to the laboratory and back”, will be broadcast live on Monday, 11 November, at 11 a.m. GMT. Lewis’s 1-hour webinar, titled “Contemporary protocols for digitally planned implant placement”, will be broadcast live on Tuesday, 12 November, at 10 p.m. GMT. For both, attendance is free of charge after easy registration on the website. Participants will be able to ask questions via a chat window and have the opportunity to earn a CE credit for each webinar by completing a multiple-choice questionnaire on the respective topics for each webinar.

I have come to know that Dr.
Maya Chmielewska came to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia and spoke at The Saudi International Dental Conference between 23 – 25 January, 2020.
May I get her a copy of her paper if possible. Thanks
